Extra Credit
Extra Credit
I am asked frequently what a student can do as an extra credit assignment. My response is almost always, “whatever you want to do!” The point of extra credit is that the student takes the initiative and does something independent from me.
I am looking to see if the student has thought outside of class about Spanish, Hispanic Culture, Linguistics, or anything that might remotely be associated with my classes. So, the sky is the limit!
Here are a few common things that people have done:
- Review Articles in Newspapers or Magazines
- Translate Songs
- Translate Bible verses
- Translate Poems
- Read and Review Kids’ books
- A Research Paper (a well-written research paper will award the most points)
- A Cultural Demonstration (food, music, etc!)
- Be creative!
Again, realize that I am not necessarily recommending these as the things that one must do for extra credit. They are only intended to “get the ball rolling.”
The bottom line: the more work I feel as though the student has put into their extra credit assignment, the more points I will award.
